More Hot Sizzling Vintage Coming this Week!

Well we're finally back from another fabulous shopping trip across the country - and as we slowly sort out all the goodies, here's a sneak peek of some of the items coming this week to Kitsch-y-Cool Vintage in Charlotte!

Tuesday, June 9, 2009

You asked - We listened!

We're making it easier for you to shop at Kitsch-y-Cool Vintage by providing sizes on each piece! The most frequent comment we hear is "How do you know what the sizes are", and most Vintage shops are sorted by color or style. For many customers it can be discouraging or frustrating to wade thru tons of vintage looking for the right fit.

So you asked, we answered - so beginning this week, all Kitsch-y-Cool Vintage garments will have a clearly marked XS - XXL label right on the tag, AND be sorted by size on the rack! No more guess work!

Shopping Trip Extravaganza!

Oh the beginning of summer, the birds are chirping, the smell of freshly mowed grass, the sun is blazing, and best of all…the summer flea markets are OPEN!

Each and every year, Kitsch-y-Cool makes a pilgrimage to several large flea markets in the MidWest for their opening weekends – and this year was a doozy!

Winnie sunning her face with 25 + bags of fresh Vintage waiting to be loaded into the van.

*We found gobs of great 40s-50s dresses, wiggle pencil skirts in wools and linens.

*Capris and Clamdiggers to DIE for – with adorable crop ruffle tops – picture Ann-Margaret in Bye Bye Birdie!

*40s-50s 2pc suits, cocktail dresses, some great 60s minis!

– and maybe a bathing suit or two?

Coming Soon - something new each and every Friday...

With Kitsch-y-Cool Home going strong across the aisle from Kitsch-y-Cool Vintage, I spent some extra time this year looking for fun and funky furniture and home furnishings – and a choice few pieces waiting for an

artistic overhaul!

60s Blue Vinyl Barrel Chair – I mean HELLO! Who can resist this?! AND coming soon, a settee to match?! Can you believe!?!

1960s French Provincial Style endtable / nightstand – come back and see what we turn this into later! I mean we can’t leave it just like that…can we?

1960s Giant fork and spoon –

ala Liz Lemon’s 30 Rock office!

Wonder if there will be room in the van for us?

So with a heavy heart (and a heavy van… does EZPass charge per pound??) we leave to return to Charlotte NC where we can’t wait to get all of these items cleaned and into Kitsch-y-Cool for all to see and enjoy for themselves.

Remember something new each and every Friday! (ok, so I was out of town last Friday, but…)

Enjoy - and we’ll see you at The Poet!!

Oh Happy Day...

For some reason I have been in a sort of Seventies mood lately...not sure why, I'm not normally a hippie kind of gal, but something about the fun and colorful Happy face mugs
and daisy glassware really cheers me up on these rainy Spring days!
While everything "owl" has already come back, what about my favorite...the mushroom decor of the 70s?

Here's our ode to the 70s, (via a great 80s dance song) Yaz with Goodbye Seventies ...

A Stitch in Time Saves...$9.99???

OK - let me first admit that I am nominating the phrase "in this economic environment" as one of the most hated phrases of 2009 - but times being the way they are, people are looking for new and creative ways to save a buck or two.

Sewing and Knitting has become "cool"; and with the popularity of "Project Runway", more and more people are looking for ways to create their own individual wardrobe.

With so many requests recently for vintage sewing patterns, Kitsch-y-Cool Vintage has brought their entire inventory of vintage sewing patterns and craft books to Sleepy Poet and marked them down low low low!

Most patterns are only $1, and even the older patterns from the 1930s and 1940s are only $5!

HUNDREDS of clothing patterns from the 30s - 80s, patterns for women, men, and children, bridal and formal patterns, and home decor designs and transfers too!

And remember these are available at our Charlotte NC location!

Alfred Shaheen raises the look of Tropical Wear to New Levels...

Recently the fashion world lost another icon....Alfred Shaheen, who turned a Hawaiian souvenier into a fashion craze!

Alfred Shaheen, garment industry pioneer, dies at 86

Shaheen revolutionized the garment industry in postwar Hawaii by designing, printing and producing aloha shirts and other ready-to-wear items under one roof.
The Honolulu Advertiser
Alfred Shaheen, a textile manufacturer who revolutionized the garment industry in postwar Hawaii by designing, printing and producing aloha shirts and other ready-to-wear items under one roof, has died. He was 86.

The tropical-print shirts for men and sundresses for women became standard and sometimes tacky souvenirs for travelers, but Shaheen raised the garments to the level of high fashion with artistic prints, high-grade materials and quality construction.

Even Elvis Presley wore a Shaheen-designed red aloha shirt featured on the album cover for the "Blue Hawaii" soundtrack in 1961.
(dress at right can be found at Dorothea's Closet )

So next time you find yourself coveting that Hawaiian Tiki Idol shirt at your local Vintage Shop...remember Alfred Shaheen made it all possible!

A legend passes...

Cowboys and Rockabilly fashion fans around the world should bow their heads today to the passing of a man who was considered the Henry Ford of the western shirt.
JACK WEIL ORIGINATOR OF THE WESTERN SHIRT - 1901-8/13/2008

Rockmount Ranch Wear founder and president, Jack A. Weil who has made invaluable contributions to Western culture. "Papa Jack" recently turned 106 years old and remains vital and active in the business he founded in the industry he pioneered. He is to western wear what Henry Ford is to the car. Jack A. introduced the first commercially made shirts with snaps and bolo ties and is responsible for helping popularize Western fashion. His original designs have become the mainstay of the Western look, a fashion uniquely American. These designs are the longest continuously running fashions in America. Those of us who know "Papa Jack" are the better for it.

Check out these cool Rockmount Ranch Wear fashions currently on eBay, both at Hang M High Vintage Western Wear!

This week is TOPS with us! Make sure you check out our friends at Damn Good Vintage who've tagged us!

1) Show us your favorite blouse or top in your inventory!

We love this swingin' western embroidered shirt currently in our inventory at Kitsch-y-Cool Vintage. 1970's from Sears Western Collection - it's rainbow colors make us happy!

2)Tee shirts or blouses, whats your personal style?

Most days - (ok almost everyday) will find me in tee shirt and jeans.

3)Favorite tee shirt EVER?

Probably my husbands 1975 high school wrestling team tee shirt.

4)Favorite era for a vintage blouse? Think 40s rayons with nipped waists, sheer ruffled 50s nylons for layering, perky 60s cotton prints…..

When I worked the corporate job - I loved to use 40s nylon blouses mixed with business suits...but the 60's mod prints go great with my funky casual look.

5)What are you tops at? Tell us what you’re better than ANYONE else at!

I am the BEST at making up excuses not to work on my sewing / repairing projects!

Now we're off to see what Funkoma has to say!

1) Show us your favorite halter dress or top!

Kitsch-y-Cool Vintage currently has this way cool 70s crop top halter for sale on eBay - just love those tie front halters!

2)Marilyn rocked the halter bodice back in the 50s, but it came back big in the 70s…..which is your favorite era for the halter?

To me - nothing true halter tops (not dresses) invoke an image of the 1970's!

3)Bare backs are vulnerable, what’s your suggestion for protecting skin from the sun?

Nothing protects like a colorful vintage shrug - or scarf!

4)Halter as top or dress, whats your preference?

As much as I treasure memories of playing in the backyard in a tie back halter, at my age, I think I'd prefer the halter dress!

5)A bra can be a challenge…..best suggestion for support?

Until they invent a adhesive bra that actually sticks - for now - just let it all hang out! :)

That's all for us - what does Funkoma have to say next?

This week on the eVintage blog tag we honor the 10 year anniversary of Frank Sinatra's passing, thank to Damn Good Vintage for tagging us!

fast_eddies_retro_rags

I actually had the pleasure of seeing Frankie in concert shortly before his death - and there was nothing like it! When he sang "Fly Me to the Moon" - he was still dreamy - even then!

3) Favorite Rat Pack member? (Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Joey Bishop, Sammy Davis Jr. or Peter Lawford)
Oh Peter Lawford all the way - I think it's the accent!

Rat Pack suave - of course!
